Mullett Township
is a general law township in Cheboygan County, Michigan. The population was 1312 in the 2010 US census. The township and Mullett Lake are named for John Mullett, who with William Burt, surveyed much of the area between 1840 and 1843.

The commercial center of the Township is the quiet unincorporated Village of Topinabee located on the west shore of Mullett Lake on M27 highway. The village is a trailhead for the DNR Trail with off-street parking and restrooms.

The village has a Post Office, Convenience Store with gas pumps, Public Library with 24 hour outdoor WiFi, an artisan-owned woodwork shop, a breakfast cafe and a bar and grille. Township owned buildings include the Library, Township Hall and Fire Hall, and an unused former school building on Lea St.

Recreation needs are served with a beachfront park and covered picnic area, free public boat launch at the north end of the village, a small public access to Mullett Lake across from the Nokia Cafe and tennis court, ball-field, and playground equipment at a public park located up the hill on Lea St.

The east side of Mullett Township is largely rural, with no commercial development. Township services include a Fire Hall and volunteer East Mullett Lake Fire Department.

Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth-Lincoln

Government of the TDA, by the TDA, for the TDA, shall not perish from Mullett Township-Supervisor Gale

The Topinabee Development Association has become less vocal in recent public meetings but Supervisor MaryAnne Gale clearly remains Tom O'Hare's puppet. The TDA's needs are her needs. The TDA's priorities are her priorities. The TDA's words are her words.

When hundreds of people ask about the weeds in the new TDA Park, the TDA says they are "wildflowers" and Supervisor MaryAnne Gale's lips say "wildflowers". Like a ventriloquist dummy with Tom O'Hare's hand stuck up it's backside, when the TDA says they are weeds, Supervisor MaryAnne Gale now says weeds and they were killed with an illegal application of Round Up.

When the TDA says "parking lot", Supervisor MaryAnne Gale says parking lot.

At the September 2, 2014 Board Meeting the Mullett Board approved by a 3 to 2 vote spending another $2,500 to hire Wade-Trim to write a grant seeking fund from the MNRTF for a proposed parking lot with a "ballpark" $200,000 price tag. Notable by their nay vote; Treasurer Kathy Flory and Trustee John Brown.

What's wrong with spending another $2,500 of taxpayer funds to possibly "win" another grant from the MNRTF?   These grants are not free. This proposed grant application requires a "minimum" 30% match. Minimum. As demonstrated by every previous action by Tom O'Hare and the TDA, the cost of the project and the percentage of the matching grant will both grow until someone yells "enough".

Yes, Scrat lives again. That obsessed little acorn chasing sabre-toothed squirrel AKA Tom O'Hare is back. He is still focused on building Topinabee to match his vision, or at least a vision that looks like Harbor Springs or Bay Harbor.

The TDA propaganda machine says:

COMMUNITY PROJECTS

"TDA members were busy again this year supporting various projects to raise funds to be used to promote Topinabee.... All of this money goes back into the town to support grant applications and various projects in Topinabee."

If that were true, why are the Mullett taxpayers on the hook for over $20,000 spent this year on the TDA's Streetscape designs and grant writing? The Mullett Board's just committed $2,500 of taxpayer funds to seek grants chasing Tom "Scrat" O'Hare's nut is further proof that grants are not free.  The taxpayers have been hung out to dry with their pockets empty on numerous failed TDA grant applications. The TDA has never paid for a successful Grant application.

The TDA continues to monopolize the government of Mullett Township. The Mullett Board, led by Supervisor MaryAnne Gale, continues to ignore the needs of the majority of Mullett taxpayers. She personally services the TDA while ignoring comments and concerns from other taxpayers.

This year, some very vocal TDA supporters have already taken advantage of an improving lakeshore real estate market  and cashed out their investments in Topinabee. Will the TDA wither and die like the "wildflowers" in the TDA park?

No. Like "Scrat", it will survive and continue to chase Tom's nut. Like some proselytizing door-knocker, people find it easier to give Tom O'Hare a few bucks for the TDA, knowing he will go away. He'll continue to count his extended family, irregardless of where they reside as TDA members. Despite all this, after more than half a dozen years, the Topinabee Development Association is still spelled: T-O-M and M-A-R-Y O'-H-A-R-E
